Restoring the boutique unit block after significant staining to the bricks.
This new build dry pressed brick had been cleaned with excessive quantities of acid after a sustained period of dry weather. The acid had been absorbed into the bricks after cleaning and reacted with the mineral content contained in the brick. The result was that significant staining of both the bricks and mortar.
We had to identify and remove the variety of different stains that had occurred and then had to rebalance the alkalinity of the building by extracting the excessive salt content that had developed in the bricks.
After that process we then had to develop a new salt compatible mortar tint and apply to the mortar beds to restore the black look desired by the builder.
Finally, to ensure that no stain could re-occur over the long term, a number of coats salt inhibitor were applied over a 3 month period.
It was a complex process but a great outcome was achieved with the builder recently selling the units for a significant profit.
