High St, Armadale Melbourne

This is High St Armadale, a late Victorian brick mansion, dilapidated and covered in ivy.

The first step was to remove the ivy, by physically pulling it off, and then burning off the suckers with a propane flame gun. This carbonised the suckers, which were removed with a combination of sodium hypochlorite and physical scraping.

Before and after treatment. The before photo shows the poor condition of the bricks, covered in ivy, and 120 years of road grime.

Four step process:

  1. Physical removal of ivy
  2. Burning off residual suckers with propane burner
  3. Up to 3 brushing of 20% Barratec but only moderate pressure because of fragile mortar
  4. Treat cream bricks by hand to remove discolouration with fluoride
